For those interested, this is how we track down where individuals are buried. The main cemetery map is divided into areas labelled alphabetically as shown on the Cemetery Map page. Individual graves are then numbered sequentially within each area in plot maps – see the example below. The number of each plot is cross-referenced back to the registry of graves.
In a well-kept cemetery it would be easy to find individual graves. However, when the cemetery is overgrown and headstones may be missing or completely covered with ivy, bramble etc there is still a lot of work required to identify a particular grave.
This sample plot map shows section S, where Leah Lee is buried, section T where Thomas Bidwill is buried and section U where the Croydon family can be found.
