The Friends of Teignmouth Cemetery (FOTC) was formally established on the 7th February 2017 in response to enormous public interest in conserving the cemetery and its buildings, and promoting them for a range of multi-purpose community uses sympathetic to the surroundings.
These were represented in an Expression of Interest to Teignbridge District Council in order to bring about a full public consultation on the future of the cemetery. The plan would then be to seek grant funding to carry out the necessary restoration work.
We are not alone! There is a an organisation called “The National Federation of Cemetery Friends” who publish an excellent handbook: “Saving Cemeteries, a Handbook for Cemetery Friends”. This has examples of Friends’ organisations elsewhere which have already embarked on the long road of saving their own local cemeteries. See: National Federation
The pages in this section will contain all the administrative information about FOTC until a separate web-site is established.
